Focus groups are a qualitative method that can be a great tool for certain types of research. For example, focus groups can be used to get feedback on product or service developments, or to gain deeper insights into a brand, advert etc.
We can carry out focus groups as an independent research project, as part of a larger project such as mapping out your customer journey, or in the form of a preliminary study in preparation for a larger quantitative study.
The dialogue that arises in focus groups is exactly what in some cases gives this method the edge over collecting responses from participants individually. That’s why it’s important to make sure that you have a good discussion and that your focus group is made up of the right participants. We can help you find participants even if you’re looking for a target group that’s hard to identify and/or recruit.
How we conduct focus groups
We are more than happy to take charge of the entire focus group process. We will help you with everything from planning and recruiting participants, to conducting focus groups and summarising and reporting results.
We begin with a start-up meeting where we talk through the project, make a time schedule, go through what information you want to get out of the focus group etc.
The next stage is to design the interview guide and recruit the participants based on the criteria that have been set. We handle all the practical aspects of focus groups, and a moderator leads the group discussion to make sure that all questions are covered and that different participants get to give their views on what is being discussed.
Depending on what areas the focus groups are being held in, we can use facilities that have been tailor-made specifically for focus groups. We can also help you to listen in on the ground and/or via video link. We summarise the outcome of the focus group to give you a good overall picture of the insights that have been produced.
Results are compiled into a clear report that highlights recurring views, and presents illustrative quotes, a summary and our conclusions. We can also provide you with full documentation in the form of video recordings and/or transcripts of the focus group in its entirety.
